My Mother was a single parent of three children, despite this, she worked hard to provide for us. Even though there were many challenges we faced as a family (and likely many more that she faced alone), she instilled in me a sense of care and compassion and the desire to help others that I see struggling. I have worked in the health care industry nearly half my life. Whether I was in an adult day setting, a hospital, physician’s office or a long-term care center, there was always one consistent challenge – transportation, or the lack thereof. People who desperately need to get to a medical appointment, arrive at a recreational event, or even be able to attend a grandchild’s graduation were missing these crucial things simply because they did not have access to safe and reliable transportation. Those who are unable to drive and/or have a disability are affected disproportionately. I recognized this as a barrier for this population that has a negative impact on both their health and overall quality of life. The freedom to go where you want and when you want should not be limited by a disability. I felt strongly that I wanted to do something to make a difference, to improve the lives of those affected. As a result, We founded GRACE HEALTH CARE &NEMT LLC , in honor of my late Mother, Grace Machimo who sadly passed of Covid-19.
